We had two very special guests (shown above) in the 2013 show.
The first was Zhigang Chen,
who performed the art of bian lian or face changing. From Chengdu, China, Chen
learned the art form from the famous face changing Master Xiong Jian of Sichuan Opera House
where the opera stunt was originated. Our second guest was professional singer Yayu Khoe,
An accomplished coloratura soprano with three CD albums recordings to her credits, Khoe has
given many solo recitals in New York Lincoln Center and performed with major music groups
and opera companies in the US, Europe, and China. She has also lectured and given recitals
and masters classes in Universities in China and in public schools and colleges in the U.S.,
and won numerous US and international awards for her singing and contributions to the arts.
Both Chen and Khoe currently reside in Phoenix, Arizona. They did a fantastic job to help our
community celebrate the Year of the Snake! Our upcoming show also featured members
of the Knoxville Chinese community performing traditional Chinese folk dancing, singing,
Chinese martial arts, and more. We had door prizes from local businesses -- and
three grand prizes of $50, $50, and $100 for three lucky audience members !
